Eyes in the centre with blepharoplasty

Eyes in the centre with blepharoplasty

With advancing age, it can happen that excess skin forms in the eye area, caused by a lack of elasticity, resulting in the formation of periocular wrinkles and creases. It is also possible that a subcutaneous fat accumulation forms on the eyelids over time. The bags that form in the eyelid area can disturb the aesthetics of the eyes, making them appear old, tired and sad. Lablepharoplasty is the facial cosmetic surgery procedure dedicated to correcting blemishes of the eyelids, which is easy and safe and allows for visible rejuvenation of the eyes and a renewed freshness of the face. In fact, the procedure allows for the elimination of eyelid folds, fat bags and, in some cases, the lifting of the outer part of the eye, all with the intention of correcting and never distorting the characteristic features of the eyes.

The procedure is performed on both men and women in cases of fat accumulations or bags on the upper or lower eyelids, ptosed eyes that give a shinny and sad look, or for so-called 'crow's feet' with sagging skin. Generally, it is requested by people over the age of 35 who want to rejuvenate their eyes, while younger patients often request it for hereditary factors, i.e. to retouch the shape and cut of their eyes. There are also cases in which it is advisable to consider the operation not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for functional reasons, such as in the case of a severe ptosis of the eyelids that can reduce the field of vision.

The surgery can be performed all year round, although we recommend, when possible, to have the operation in the summer months, since after the operation it is necessary to wear sunglasses for about a week to protect the operated part.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid or both (in this case we speak of complete blepharoplasty). The surgeon separates the skin tissue from the adipose and muscular tissue by removing excess parts, as in the case of bags under the eyes. The scars are made to match the natural folds of the eye so that they are minimal.

Unless there are special clinical indications, the operation does not require hospitalisation but is performed safely on an outpatient basis with discharge 1 hour after the operation. The operation involveslocal anaesthesia combined with mild sedation. The operation can involve both upper and lower eyelids depending on the degree of skin relaxation and associated fat bags. The result is generally definitive and permanent, in some cases a touch-up may be required after 10 years.

The post-operative period is usually quick and painless, characterised only by slight haematoma and oedema. Normal life can be resumed after about 4-7 days of rest.

The result is rejuvenated and relaxed eyelids with a high degree of patient satisfaction. Blepharoplasty surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other surgical techniques such as lifting to intervene more massively and radically on the face.
