What is J-Plasma Technology by RENUVION®?
Renuvion technology is based on plasma energy, which is why it is also called J-Plasma. Some describe plasma as the 4th state of matter, since it is technically not considered one of the other three states such as solid, liquid or gaseous.
Only a liquid can be turned into a gas, and if sufficient energy is added to it, it can turn into a plasma. J-Plasma technology enables an inert gas such as helium to be transformed into a plasma when it passes through an RF-activated electrode, resulting in a precise flow of cold, low-current plasma. With its high level of precision and minimal heat loss, J-Plasma can create safe and effective subcutaneous heating with minimal thermal damage.
Revunion's J PLASMA is a new technology of US origin by means of which a low-invasiveness surgical treatment is performed that allows a powerful skin retraction, with consequent firming of the subdermal component with evident improvements in terms of dermis compactness and skin profile .
The decision to invest in this technology arose from the desire to find an electro-medical instrument on the market with proven efficacy in deep skin firming. After meticulous research carried out in the USA, we decided to invest in the J PLASMA by Renuvion technology, managing to introduce the first machine distributed in Europe in our practice in December 2018, as a national preview.
The new frontier of surgery is to obtain a good skin retraction of the lax tissues in order to avoid or procrastinate a more aggressive surgery such as thigh, arm or abdominal lifting. How to achieve dermal retraction is now well understood. The objective is to transfer heat (55 to 70 degrees) to the deep tissue in order to bring about a retraction of the collagenous component without denaturing or necrotising it.
HOW RENUVION J-PLASMA WORKS
The name is derived fromplasma energy. Plasma, from a physical point of view, is the fourth stage of matter.
J PLASMA technology transforms an inert gas such as helium into plasma as it passes through an activated Radio Frequency electrode, resulting in a precise flow of energy that causessafe andeffective heating ofthe subcutaneous tissuewith minimal thermal damage, all without causing bleeding or burns to the surrounding and underlying tissues.
AT WHAT TEMPERATURE DOES THE RENUVION J-PLASMA WORK?
The energy produced by the J PLASMA allows the tissue to reach a temperature of between 60/80 degrees. Various studies have shown that the tissue retraction effect, with consequent reduction in laxity, is obtained thanks to the denaturation of the collagen fibres, resulting in
an immediate contraction of the fibres themselves with a progressive effect over the following 4-6 months
a stimulation of fibroblast activity with synthesis of new collagen and increased dermal density.
In order to induce the body to produce new collagen it is necessary to increase the temperature of the collagen itself to over 63° C allowing the shortening ofthe collagen fibres present. At lower temperatures this does not occur.
HOW DOES RENUVION J-PLASMA TREATMENT TAKE PLACE?
The initial prerequisite for the use of J-Plasma is the creation of a large space in the subcutis that allows the instrument to be introduced. This prerequisite makes this procedure a perfect match for liposuction, enhancing the results. In selected cases (thin patients with flabby skin) the procedure can also be performed without fat suction in order to achieve only a skin retraction effect. It follows that the treatmentis performed in the same way as liposuction withthe same recovery time.

FOR WHICH PATIENTS IS THIS TYPE OF PROCEDURE INDICATED?
Patients who are formerly obese or have lost weight
Patients with excessive skin laxity as a result of pregnancy
Patients with district fat accumulation (inner thighs) in areas with skin laxity
THE POST-OPERATIVE
Post-operative outcomes are transient and similar to those found after a liposuction procedure, i.e:
oedema
haematomas,
paresthesias (temporary alteration of sensitivity at the liposuction site)
These symptoms disappear after about 2-4 weeks, which can be reduced by performing manual lymphatic drainage or connective tissue massage, such as LPG.
COSTS
The procedure has a cost increase compared to liposuction of approximately 1200-1500 euros, depending on the size of the area to be treated.
