Reduction mammaplasty, when it is best to remove

There are those who have small breasts and would like them to be bigger and therefore resort to breast augmentation, but there are also many women who have the opposite problem: too large breasts that cause health problems and insecurity and who therefore resort to the reverse operation, reduction mammaplasty for breast reduction. Having particularly large or sagging breasts may be due to genetic factors, hormonal factors or excessive weight gain. The operation is indicated for all those women whose breasts, due to excessive voluminosity, cause them the physical and psychological disorders listed above. A great deal of attention is always paid to the scars, which are generally of good quality and destined to become almost invisible a year after surgery. The postoperative period is characterised by slight haematoma and oedema. bed rest for 12 hours and then moderate activity for the next 7 to 10 days is recommended.

The aesthetic result obtained with this type of operation is generally very satisfactory and long-lasting but not permanent, as it will always be conditioned by lifestyle (weight gain and loss, pregnancies, smoking) and by the inevitable effects of gravity and ageing. After the operation, the breasts will immediately look smaller and patients will feel lighter, free to play sports and dress as they wish.
